What to Expect

Christ the King welcomes you to visit us! It can be a bit awkward for many people to visit somewhere they may not know anyone. But we invite you to come join us as we are a friendly group filled with the love of Christ. Remember that every friend that you have was once a stranger!

Wednesday Night Light 5:30-7:30 PM

Wednesday evenings are casual as far as dress so there is no need to wear anything “dressy”. We only ask that you use common sense as far as appropriate attire. Don’t feel intimidated if you feel like your knowledge of the Bible is lacking or if you haven’t been to church in a while. We will learn together as we grow in knowledge of our Savior and His Word to us.

From 5:30-6:15 PM we gather for food and fellowship (currently first and third Sundays for this meal). If you can’t get there right at 5:30 that is fine. At 6:15 we will transition to a brief opening Service. After this concludes, the children will split off to the nursery and children’s class. The adults will begin our Bible Study. The Bible Study will end by 7:30 PM. See the schedule of events to the right for more details.

Sundays 9:15 AM Adult Sunday School; 10:30 Divine Service (worship)

As Christians we are part of a community of faith and we desire to gather together with the family of God to lift our praises to the Lord, hear the Word of God spoken to us, speak to God in prayer, and most importantly receive the gift of forgiveness through Jesus Christ. Hebrews 10:25 instructs us to not forsake assembling together.

What should I expect if I visit Christ the King Lutheran Church?

You should expect to be welcomed as our guest as we worship the King of Kings! You should expect a community of faith based on Word of God.

Will the “format” of the Service be familiar to me?

The answer to this question will really depend on your religious background. If you have rarely attended church or have been part of a non-Christian religion than any church you visit would almost certainly be a new and different experience for you. If you have a background in a traditional Lutheran Church, then what you experience at Christ the King will be very familiar to you. If you have a background in another denomination, then there will be things that are familiar to you such as: singing, prayer, and preaching. However, if you have never attended a Lutheran Church and have attended other types of churches common in the area there will be parts of the Service and things that we do that will be significantly different than what you are used to. But this is fine! Do not feel like you have to understand everything to visit. Come and see!

The worship service at Christ the King Lutheran Church is what Lutherans call the “Divine Service”, meaning that God Himself comes to us with the forgiveness of sins. We follow the historic liturgy of the Church.  Many of the elements of the Divine Service have been in the practice of the Church since very early on and you will see that what we say and sing is based on what we find in the Word of God, the Bible. The Divine Service is a participatory event. The Divine Service is centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You can learn more about it through this link: http://www.lcms.org/page.aspx?pid=1116

You will receive a printed bulletin with the order of Service to help you follow along in the Lutheran Service Book hymnal. The Pastor will also give some directions during the Service to assist you in participating.

What should I wear?

There is no formal dress code other than to dress modestly (basically use common sense). Do keep in mind that you are coming to God’s house to be in His presence-this is an important event! This will influence the decisions on what attire we choose to wear to church. However, don’t avoid visiting because you don’t have a nice suit or fancy dress.

How long does the Service last?

There is not a set time limit, but generally the Services will last not less than 45 minutes, but not more than 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Am I expected to give money?

No. We do not pressure visitors to give during the offering. You are welcome to give toward the Lord’s work, but are under no obligation.

What about my kids? I am nervous that they might not behave.

As our Lord Jesus welcomes children to Him, so do we at Christ the King. It is a good thing to have kids in church! We understand that young children will make some noise from time to time.  We also offer a children’s sermon where children can come forward for a special message from the Pastor on non-Communion Sundays.  There are also special “children’s bulletins” that are geared for children ages 3-12 with activities that relate to the Bible lessons of the day that children can utilize during the Service each week.  Additionally, a “Children’s Church” is offered for younger children during the sermon.

Should I participate in everything that takes place?

As a visitor, we ask that you participate to the level that you feel comfortable. If there is Communion the Sunday (generally the first and third Sundays of each month) that you visit, please take some time to read over the next item in the dropdown menu about Communion before planning on receiving Communion.

Logistics

Where is Christ the King located?

We are fairly easy to find. Under the drop down menu “About Us”, there is a page that contains a map and directions to Christ the King.

Where do I park?

There is plenty of parking.  Our lot is in front of the building.  Turn right into the parking area off Club Drive.  It is the same parking lot as for the driving range and pool.

Where should I enter the church and then where do I go?  Where are the restrooms?

Enter through the main double doors in the front of the church (under the overhang).  There will be an entryway that opens into our spacious worship Sanctuary.  If entering the church, the restrooms will be to your left (go toward the pools side of the building). On Sunday mornings ushers are available to assist you as well.

Is the church handicap accessible?

Yes.  The building is all one story and there is a ramp (only one step even without the ramp) to get into the building.  The restrooms have a handicap stall as well.

Finally…

If there is anything else that you would like to ask about or desire clarification on anything relating to visiting, please contact us. We are happy to answer questions.

We hope to see you soon!
