What We Believe

Our faith is centered on Jesus Christ!  We are Christian people who have been forgiven of our sins not by our works, but by what Jesus has done for us in giving His life in our place.

Jesus on Cross

We at Christ the King Lutheran Church believe, teach, and confess the foundational teachings of the Christian faith based on the Word of God, the Bible.  The verses given in reference below are not a complete list that relate to each topic, but some examples of key verses that relate to each key belief. These beliefs include:

1.  There is only one God: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit, three distinct Persons in one divine being or Essence (The Trinity). (Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 3:16-17, Matthew 28:19, 1 John 5:7)

2.  God is the creator of heaven and earth. (Genesis 1-2, Isaiah 45:12, Colossians 1:16)

3.  Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  He is both true God and true man. (Matthew 17:5, Luke 24:39, John 20:28, 1 Timothy 2:5)

4.  Jesus Christ was born of the virgin Mary. (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:20, Luke 1:34-35)

5.  Jesus suffered, was crucified, died, and was buried as the atonement for the sins of the world. (2 Corinthians 5:21, Galatians 3:13, 1 Peter 2:24)

6.  Jesus rose from the dead in victory over sin, death, and the devil. (John 1:29, John 8:1, John 8:34-36, Romans 5:19, 1 Corinthians 15:4-8, 2 Timothy 1:10, 1 John 3:8)

7.  Jesus ascended into heaven and will return on the Last Day in glory to judge the living and the dead. (John 12:48, Acts 1:6-11, Acts 17:31, Revelation 1:7)

8.  The Holy Spirit creates saving faith in the believer. (John 3:5-6, 1 Corinthians 12:3, Titus 3:5)

9.  There is one Church, comprised of all those who have faith in Christ. (Psalm 149:1, Romans 12:4-5, Ephesians 4:3-6)

10.  Believers in Jesus Christ live eternally in heaven, for those who die in sin and unbelief their eternal destination is hell. (Isaiah 66:24, John 5:29, John 3:16-18, John 3:36, Revelation 14:13, Revelation 20:15)

You may or may not be familiar with the Lutheran Church as there are few Lutherans in this part of the country. Lutherans, from our beginning, have emphasized these three elements: Scripture Alone, Grace Alone, and Faith alone. The drop down menu “Lutheran Distinctives” and “Lutheran History” will give you more information about what we believe.

You are invited to visit the following link and view the 12 short videos in this course called “God Connects” that will give you an overview of important beliefs:
